North East Shoreline : photo by Malcolm A

Taken on a dark and stormy day near Whitburn, in the North East of England. A good cloudy sky helps the dynamics of an image. A blue sky gives you a horizon and the satisfaction of a heartwarming colour. A cloudy sky gives you the muscle of shape and form. I could of course make the horizon a flat line, but in this case it is a curve again. Such a picture convention to have the horizon behave in a polite and proper fashion and be flat. Those Greeks who believed the world was round, where they at all influenced by the optical effect that we can see from a height that has the world curving? It was a dark day and so there is a slight blur, a lack of sharpness to things because of the low speed. That's ok. It's more about the overall effect for this kind of thing. |
